flag design candidate
this polyamorous flag design was created by Luna Masoni.
wide band
Description:
A rectangular flag with five horizontal bands of color, the middle band being as wide as each pair of bands above and below it. The colors of the bands from top to bottom are: dark blue, pale blue, yellow, peach, and bright red.
Symbolism:
This design closely follows the example set by the original "Pi" flag, but with careful attention to color harmony, and an abstraction of the central symbol into a central band.
The yellow band is set wider than the others as a nod to the expansiveness of the polyamorous experience. It allows both metaphorical and literal room for growth and change: the wider central band gives ample space for users to modify the image with a symbol of their choosing—an anarchy heart, an infinity heart, a polycule symbol, etc.—while still functioning beautifully as a distinctive and recognizable flag on its own and without a symbol.
It's a cleaner, modernized iteration of the original flag many polyamorous people recognize, and includes approaches to non-monogamy that aren't exclusively romantic.
Dark Blue for responsibility to my partners and to myself.
Light Blue for pride in non-monogamous practice.
Yellow for abundance and expansiveness.
Peach for the spectrum of attraction in anti-normative non-monogamous relationships—Platonic, Emotional, Aesthetic, Tertiary, Sexual, Romantic
Red: for the spectrum of love in anti-normative non-monogamous relationships—Platonic, Emotional, Aesthetic, Tertiary, Sexual, Romantic
